Installation of Rood Deck Underlayment for Roof Edge Protection Sydney

Lisa Raynor, March 25, 2022March 25, 2022

Underlayment for roof decks is known to be the essential component. The extra steps ensure the roof’s longevity and carry out roof edge protection from water leaks.

The Shingle-Mate protection roof deck covers the eave metal on slopes of four inches or more over the drip edge. A rake edge underlayment is to protect from water infiltration over the drip edge.

You can even nail Shingle-Mate deck protection in the place using only enough of the nails or staples unless your entire local building codes require some more fasteners.

How you can install?

Lay the second course 2″ above the preceding course, overlapping the Shingle-Mate of underlayment by 2″. Laps should overlap by 4″, ends should overlap by 4″.

Underlay the Weather Watch or Storm Guard of leak barrier with Shingle-Mate roof deck underlayment at all roof penetrations. Install Weather Watch or the Storm Guard of leak barrier by 6″ at the valleys, as a second course over the eaves, and at the rake edges.

Low slope roofing, with a 2/12 to the 4/12 pitch, requires the use of a Weather Watch or the Storm Guard water-proofing materials. The ideal protection is provided by a 36″ layer of waterproofing at the eve of the roof.

The next step is to install an extra 36″ of Shingle-Mate deck roof protection on top of the first course of roof deck underlayment. This will fully cover the first course.

When installing the Deck Armor underlayment protection over the deck, which is known as a breathable and UV-stabilized polypropylene underlayment just designed to shed the water, begin at 17″ from the eave. Install upon with a full course of roof underlayment protection at the 17″ from the eave, and then continue up the roof using the series of 17″ exposure.

Allowing it to breathe prevents moisture from being trapped, which can damage decks and buildings. Up to 180 days of UV exposure will not damage Deck Armor.

Deck Armor underlayment deck protection must be installed over asphalt shingles as the primary covering for the roof.

Additional tip

Keep the leak barrier-free or scuffs at all times. Walk on the leak barriers normally without damaging them.

Roof edge protection waterproofing layer can be compromised by scuffling, however. When the leak barrier presses against the deck because of weight pressure, scuffing can occur.
